When people fall prey to scams, Linda Carmody, president/CEO of the Central Indiana Better Business Bureau, Inc., takes it personally.


 ITAC Warns Consumers to Avoid Fake e-mails Tied to Bank Mergers, Predicts Increase in Credit-Related Scams (Centre Daily Times)

ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center, today joined the Federal Trade Commission in urging consumers to be careful regarding e-mails that look as if they come from a financial institution that recently acquired a consumer's bank, savings and loan, or mortgage. ITAC also anticipates an increase in refinancing and other credit-related scams.

"You have to know the rules and how everything works if you want to protect yourself online," Hale Guyer, a retired special investigator and licensed private detective, said during his speech on identity theft and cybersecurity. Guyer spoke in the Circus Room of the Bone Student Center Tuesday afternoon as a part of CyberSecurity awareness month.
